After August 2015 no other movies have grossed $500 million dollars or more worldwide so far this year. As for movies that have have grossed over $1 billion dollars there is now a fourth movie Minions which makes 2015 tied with 2012 for the year with the most films that grossed over a $1 billion dollars. Also Inside Out moved from sixth place to fifth place.

Since last month there has been two more movies that grossed $500 million dollars or more worldwide this year which has increased the total number of movies to do this to seven. The two new additions to the list are both animated movies. Also the highest grossing movie of the year has switched from Furious 7 to Jurassic World which is now currently the third highest grossing movie of all time worldwide.

There is only five movies that have grossed $500 million dollars or more worldwide so far this year and three of them have grossed over a billion dollars worldwide. Of these five movies three of them are sequels, one was a remake, and one was based off a book. Also Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron are currently the fourth and fifth highest grossing movie of all time worldwide.

As you can see there is only four movies that have done this so far this year and three of them are movies based off of marvel comic books. These three marvel comic book movies were all made by three different movie studios. The actually Marvel movie studio is owned by The Walt Disney Company but does not own the rights to use Spider-Man and X-Men Mutants in there movies. On the other hand Maleficent is a remake of a movie based on a fairy tale.

The highest grossing movie of 2013 was the only movie to make over a billion dollars that year which was Iron Man 3. Also there were eleven other movies that made $500 million dollars or more in 2013. Six of these movies were sequels. In addition one of these movies were a prequel and another of these movies were a remake. This means that there were only four movies released in 2013 that were not sequels or prequels or remakes that made $500 million dollars or more.
