Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Starring: Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac
Director: J.J. Abrams

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh live action Star Wars movie. This Star Wars movie reminded me a lot of Star Wars: Episode VI - A New Hope because the main characters were both from a desert planet and went on an adventure beyond their planet. In addition the main characters both got help from Han Solo and Chewbacca on their adventure. Unlike the other Star Wars movies the main character in this Star Wars movie was not a man but instead a woman named Rey. Rey was one of the many new characters introduced in this Star Wars movie. Other new characters introduced were Finn, Poe Dameron, and a BB-8 droid. Another thing I have to mention is that the director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens J.J. Abrams was also the director of the last two Star Trek movies Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). Overall Star Wars: The Force Awakens brings fans of the series back to what they love about the original trilogy which includes episodes IV, V, and VI but does it with a combination of new characters and some original trilogy characters. I am not typically a fan of Star Wars but I tried to keep an open mind with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. After seeing this movie it did not convert me to a Star Wars fan, but I'm sure there are many fans out there that will appreciate this film.

Goosebumps Movie Review

Goosebumps
Staring: Jack Black (R. L. Stine), Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush, Ryan Lee
Director: Rob Letterman

Goosebumps is a children's horror comedy film. I did not get scared during this movie because I was never afraid of the villains. There are many different types of villains which include monsters. On the other hand I thought this movie was fun because it made me laugh. The most interesting character in this movie is Hannah played by Odeya Rush. In addition Jack Black gave a more serious performance than he usually does which took away from some of his silliness you are use to seeing.

PAX Prime First Timer

On Monday August 31, 2015 I attended my first Penny Arcade Expo (PAX Prime) in Seattle, Washington. PAX Prime is a gaming expo that was first held in 2004 at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, Washington and is now held annually at multiple locations throughout the city of Seattle. I spent my one day at PAX Prime at the Washington State Convention Center (WSCC) location. At this location was where the companies booths were set up, tabletop freeplay game areas, and much more. Some of the bigger name companies that had booths included Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. A booth I really enjoyed was the one with the Superfight demo because it made me laugh. Superfight is a card game like apples to apples but with arguments. In the tabletop freeplay area someone taught me how to play my first deckbuilder game Penny Arcade The Game: Gamers vs. Evil which I had fun playing. In the end I would definitely attend another PAX Prime in the future.

Straight Outta Compton Film Review

Straight Outta Compton
Starring: O'Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Neil Brown Jr., Aldis Hodge, Paul Giamatti
Director: F. Gary Grey

My most anticipated film to watch of the 2015 summer was Straight Outta Compton because of the intriguing red band trailer and movie subject matter which was hip hop/rap history. This film is a biography about the rap group N.W.A which included Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. In Straight Outta Compton Ice Cube was played by one of his sons O'Shea Jackson Jr. Straight Outta Compton brought me into the early lives of the members of N.W.A and showed me what it was like to be a rapper in the early years of hip hop. Overall I thought this film was satisfactory.

Pixels Movie Review

Pixels
Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage
Director: Chris Columbus

Pixels was a 2015 summer movie I was excited to see because it was not another romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler but instead an action sci-fi comedy. This movie also only starred Adam Sandler and Kevin James from Adam Sandler's main crew of actors. Overall Pixels was a decent movie because it was enjoyable and made me laugh multiple times.

Ant-Man Movie Review

Ant-Man
Starring: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly
Director: Peyton Reed

The twelfth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is Ant-Man which I thought was an okay movie because it keep me engaged the entire time and made me laugh. On the other hand the concept of shrinking in Ant-Man is not an original movie idea which made some of the special effects feel less inventive. Also the character Ant-Man reminds me of Iron Man because they both have a suit that gives them there power but there suits do different things. Ant-Man is not my favorite movie in the MCU.

Terminator Genisys Review

Terminator Genisys
Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jai Courtney, Emillia Clarke, Jason Clarke
Director: Alan Taylor

Terminator Genisys is the fifth movie in the Terminator series. The only actor in this movie that acted in any of the other Terminator movies was Arnold Schwarzenegger which means all the other actors in this movie were new to the Terminator series. Terminator Genisys was not as awesome as I expected it to be because it reused visual elements from the first two Terminator movies which made this movie feel less visually impressive. This felt like a Terminator movie but consisted of dialogue with cheesy one liners.
